About the In The Style series:
The In The Style series focus strictly on the playing style of the artist. These are not general "how to" lessons. The goal of these lessons is to give insight on a wide range of topics relevant to the musical style of the artist. Advanced students will be able to immediately absorb and work on many of the concepts covered in the lessons. Beginner and intermediate level students will benefit greatly from the transcriptions of the numerous video performances with close ups when relevant. Music is like a language, and it is best learnt by surrounding yourself with better musicians. The goal of the "In The Style Series" is to give you this access, as much as possible, in the comfort of your own home!
About Lorenzo Cortes:
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Lorenzo Cortés picked up the guitar at age 11. He studied jazz in Bogotá, the EMC in Buenos Aires et the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique du Liceu in Barcelona. It is towards the end of his studies that he fell in love with the music of Charlie Christian, Lester Young, Art Tatum, etc. From this point on, he decided to focus his attention on the old style of jazz. He traveled to Santiago, Chile where he played and recorded with the Bix Band with renowned musicians of the Chilean scene. In 2016, he returned to Colombia to form the first swing band in the country. With this band, he played at numerous jazz festivals in his home country. In 2019, he was invited to perform all over the USA, and at the end of the year, he moved to Paris where he has been playing with the top musicians in the style.
