About the In The Style series:

The In The Style series focus strictly on the playing style of the artist. These are not general "how to" lessons. The goal of these lessons is to give insight on a wide range of topics relevant to the musical style of the artist. Advanced students will be able to immediately absorb and work on many of the concepts covered in the lessons. Beginner and intermediate level students will benefit greatly from the transcriptions of the numerous video performances with close ups when relevant. Music is like a language, and it is best learnt by surrounding yourself with better musicians. The goal of the "In The Style Series" is to give you this access, as much as possible, in the comfort of your own home!

About Torsten Goods:

Torsten Gutknecht was born in 1980 in Düsseldorf. His first steps as a guitarist were typically influenced by rock and pop. While he was still in school he attended workshops given by Jim Hall and John Scofield in New York, and frequently visited guitarist Bireli Lagrene in France. He is one of the few guitarists trying to play in the Smooth Jazz tradition in the style of George Benson while still trying to develop a personal style.

In 2000 he became a member of the German Youth Jazz Orchestra and in 2001 he recorded the first album under his name Manhattan Walls. In 2005 Goods was the only European to be chosen by Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter for the final round of the “Thelonious Monk Jazz Guitar Competition” in Washington D.C. Since then Torsten Goods has been touring extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the USA. During this period he has worked with the likes of George Benson, Bob James, Chris Potter, James Genus, Terri Lyne Carrington, Barbara Tucker, Dawn Tallman, Marcus Fugate, Jimmy Bruno, John Ruocco, Johannes Faber, Leszek Zadlo and Patrick Scales.
